This area was created by the
one and only Cap’n Lee.
The purpose of this area is
to help the pirate-loving community find pirate bands that oh so seem to hide
themselves from the public. Here is a list of professional and amateur bands
who attempt to don a skull-cap and go by the name of Jim.
Agent 51 – The Last Pirate Song
This band is an amazing punk quartet that, although devoted themselves
to being part of a secret organisation, decided to let their hair down and sing
a jolly song about pirates. The song features on the album, Just Keep Runnin’
Sex Pistols – Friggin’ In The Riggin’
Another punk band that although weren’t full-time pirates, couldn’t
resist the allure of grog and wenches.
I’m adding this in case you stumble upon this treasure-trove of buccaneer-flavoured
chum without visiting the main page. The a:SLS
are a pirate-themed punk band fuelled by rum and an inexplicable feeling that
it would be a bad thing to let the band die.
Vandals – A Pirate’s Life
Another punk band who did one pirate song
before returning to a life of landlubbering. This
track is featured on the album Sweatin’ To The Oldies and can
be found for free, here.
The Pirates Who Carve
Out Your Eyes and Piss in Your Eye Sockets
A pirate thrash-metal/punk band who sing about all of the unpleasantries of a scallywag’s life at sea. No music is
available for download however you can still buy their albums for quite cheap.
Curse of
Monkey Island – Pirate Song
Not a band, of sorts but actually a song available from a game of that
name. The third in the continuing adventures of Guybrush Threepwood. I
mention this song because bootleg copies of this song, a featured part of the
game, floating about the internet from time to time.
George Harrison – The Pirate
Song
George Harrison, god rest his soul. Was a
buccaneer at heart and he proved it during a ‘Rutles’
weekend filmed on the BBC at one time. The intro to the song is ‘My Sweet Lord’
but then quickly turns into a song about his desire to become a pirate. A definite hit for George Harrison and pirate fans alike.
OPM –
Not exactly a pirate song, but an ode to one pirate and the rum that
made him famous. Still, there is a verse about Captain Morgan in there. Available on the album Menace to Sobriety.
Arrogant Worms – The Last
Another
one-off pirate song, this time by a folk-like trio. A tale of somebody taking up the
life of a pirate because of troubles with money.
Mad Caddies- Weird Beard
A pirate/ska band with a rockin’ chorus, available on the album ‘Rock the Plank’
The Aquabats -
Captain Hampton and the Midget Pirates
Available
on the album ‘The Fury of the Aquabats’. Pretty much just a ska song with a
guy who talks in a pirate voice in between verses.
Quite
unsurprisingly, a pirate band. A
song is available for download on their site, called Cabinboy.
And is, as far as my wooden ears can tell, is a love song about a… yup, you
guessed it! Their single is also available to buy from the site.
They call themselves
Pirate-Punk but personally I’m not sure. They sound like a regular punk band
but with “yarg” thrown in for good measure, they have
mp3s for free download though, so make a decision yourself there!
